Writing Programs FAQs
Writing program basics explained
Free writing programs are widely available. But good free writing programs are more rare. Microsoft Word and Google Docs, for example, are readily available for most people, and they are great for word processing but when it comes to screenwriting, you're better off with actual screenwriting software like StudioBinder.
StudioBinder is one of the leading movie script writing software programs because it understands and facilitates the entire writing process. From brainstorming and outlining all the way to a final draft, getting feedback from collaborators and then seamlessly integrating into the rest of pre-production services.
Most filmmakers use screenwriting software to write their scripts. Mostly because programs like StudioBinder automatically format the script with industry standards. Screenplay formatting can be an extremely tedious and creatively draining process which is why we eliminate that from your process so you can focus on the story.
Microsoft Word is not a very good program for writing screenplays. For so many other writing projects, it works wonders, but screenwriting is so particular when it comes to formatting, that using Word would become more of a hindrance than a help.
Google does have a free writing program called Google Docs that comes standard with any Google account.
