Movie Script Writer App FAQs
Scriptwriting basics explained
Good script writing apps cover the basics like proper script formatting. The best script writing apps assist you for the entire writing process, from inception to final draft. StudioBinder, for example, include outlining tools to help you develop the script as well as collaboration tools for working with co-writers or getting feedback from colleagues.
If you're new to screenwriting but want to become a screenwriter, there are a few steps you should take to make that happen.
- Study and learn — read scripts, read books about screenwriting, watch YouTube videos, join workshops online.
- Brainstorm and outline — now brainstorm your idea and shape it into an outline (a summary of the entire story).
- Start writing — some writers like to write from start to finish but others like to start with their favorite scenes or even the ending.
- Review and revise — get some feedback and rewrite. This is a process even the most experienced writers swear by.
Any writing app can technically be used to write a script but not all are recommended. For one, most word processors and AI tools are only helpful up until a certain point. We recommend that you use dedicated screenwriting software like StudioBinder that handles all the technicals related to screenwriting and is designed to be in tune with the entire writing process.
Yes, most AI writing tools are free or have free options. But remember that AI generated content is simply recycled existing content so make sure to bring your own efforts and human perspective to the work. Treat the AI as an assistant not a writer or even a co-writer.
Most people believe that one page of a properly-formatted screenplay will equal one minute of runtime in the finish film. Therefore, the script for a 2-hour movie (120 minutes) should be approx. 120 pages.
For some people, selling a movie script is a walk in the park. For most of us, selling a movie script is extremely difficult. Unless you have an agent or industry contacts, you're going to have work extra hard to get those things and write great scripts at the same time. Some production companies accept query letters so do some research into those companies and their policies before submitting.
