Script writing starts here
StudioBinder’s screenplay formatting software helps you write, share and collaborate on industry-standard screenplays.
Path to Production
Guide your script to pre-production
StudioBinder's screenwriting software applies industry-standard screenplay format from the start. As you're building your properly-formatted script, sync it with script breakdowns, scheduling, storyboards, shot lists, schedules, and call sheets.
Screenplay Format Software
Write with industry standards
StudioBinder's screenplay writing format matches industry-standards so you can focus on writing your story. We've also built auto-completion, hotkeys and auto-saving to help save more time with film script formatting.
Script Outline
Brainstorm your story arc
Before you being screenwriting, it's important to outline your screenplay first. StudioBinder's script outlining helps you to structure your screenplay, plan your beats, develop your characters while maintaining correct script screenplay format. This does much more than a screenplay format in Google Docs or a word processor alternative.
Script Imports
Upload an existing screenplay
Upload a screenplay format that was written in Movie Magic Screenwriter, Final Draft, Celtx, Fountain, Word, or even a PDF script. Just drag and drop your script into StudioBinder and it will retain your screenplay script format so you don't fuss around with formatting.
Script Versioning
Track unlimited script versions
StudioBinder provides unlimited script versions with color-coded labels so you can easily track your progress. You can even revisit previous versions without worrying about formatting screenplay drafts. All scripts are encrypted and securely stored.
Script Collaboration
Collaborate with partners
Collaboration is built into StudioBinder's screenwriting software. Simply share your script, receive notes and update your script all within the correct screenplay format so it's production-ready.
Script Syncing
Move formatted scripts to pre-production
When your formatted screenplay is complete, simply sync it with StudioBinder's pre-production software. Everything from script breakdowns, schedules, storyboards, shot lists, call sheets and more — all in one platform.

Screenplay Formatting FAQs
Screenplay formatting explained
Screenplay formatting is very particular, and for good reason. If you use screenwriting software like StudioBinder, the formatting will be handled automatically. But if you're using a word processor like Microsoft Word or Google Docs, all of that formatting will need to be done manually.
There are a few different ways to format a montage in a screenplay and there is not officially "correct" method. Some writers note the beginning and end of their montage in the scene heading while some use the action descriptions. The key is to make it clear to the reader where they start and end.
If you're writing your script in Google Docs, you'll need to format your screenplay manually. There are "templates" you can find online that will show you exactly how to format your script.
Concept, character and conflict — if you have an engaging concept filled with compelling characters and formidable conflict, you have the basic ingredients of a great screenplay.
In screenwriting, there are two acronyms that are used to differentiate dialogue. These are OC and OS and they are similar but ultimately different. OC stands for "off camera," meaning the character might be in the scene but they won't be shown on camera during that line. OS stands for "off screen," which means the character might be heard through a phone or their voice might come through the listening character's memory.
The average calculation in screenwriting is that 1 page of properly-formatted screenplay equals approximately 1 minute of screentime. Therefore, a 2-hour movie (120 minutes) would be approximately 120 pages in length.
