Screenplay Program FAQs
Screenplay writing basics explained
The 3 C's of screenwriting are Concept, Character, and Conflict. These are the building blocks of a solid story.
Yes, you can use Google Docs to write a script. The downside is that you'll have to format your script manually, which can quickly become a tedious process that interrupts your creative flow on every page.
With a quick Google search, you'll be able to find a downloadable copy of a script, assuming it's available. Sometimes production companies willingly release these online, the writer might post them on their website, or film outlets will host entire collections. StudioBinder's script library hosts hundreds of screenplays.
The easiest script to write would be a short film, not a feature. This could be anywhere from 5-20 pages. And the content should be something personal that you have experience with. So you can transcribe your story more than create it.
The professional standard script font is Courier 12-pt. One reason for this is because Courier is a "fixed-width" font so that each letter takes up the same amount of space on the page. This is important because scripts are budgeted and scheduled based on their length so having this type of font helps keep that process as consistent as possible.
