Yes! StudioBinder is free to use. StudioBinder is and will forever be free to access and use whether you are on a Free, Teams, Education, or Enterprise account. However, there may be some additional features or content you get access to with paid subscriptions.
While there are free screenwriting software programs out there, all are not created equal. The best screenwriting software goes beyond simple formatting assistance. Programs like StudioBinder also provide writing tools for outlining and note taking. Plus, once your script is done, it can be synced across the entire platform so you can start storyboarding, scheduling, call sheets and more without needing additional software.
Most screenwriting software programs are easy to use. Perhaps the biggest factor when looking for ease-of-use is how the program handles formatting as you write. Most programs like StudioBinder have hotkeys so that with a few quick keystrokes, your script can flow onto the page without interruption.
You can find and use Microsoft Word screenplay templates but they're really only useful as guides to show you the formatting settings. You'll have to manually format the script yourself as you write so they aren't as helpful as you might want.

How to write a screenplay in StudioBinder
Open StudioBinder on your browser.
Click the Screenwriting tab on the project homepage.
Press the "New Screenplay" button and give it a title.
Open the Script Outline to organize your notes and plan out the structure.
Start writing your initial draft. Create a revision draft for each subsequent rewrite.
Press the "Sync to Project" button so that the script will integrate with other StudioBinder features.
When you're done writing and ready to start pre-production, click the "lock script" button.
Share your script with view-only links, invite collaborators or team members to get feedback.
