Think of Greek mythology, with gods and goddesses residing on Mount Olympus, influencing the mortal world in dramatic ways. You've probably heard of Zeus, the king of the gods, or Athena, the goddess of wisdom. These myths helped ancient Greeks make sense of the world around them and understand human nature.

Legends

Legends are a bit closer to home. They're stories rooted in historical events but embellished over time. They often feature heroic figures or significant events. 

Take Robin Hood, for instance, the legendary archer who supposedly robbed the rich to feed the poor in medieval England. Whether Robin Hood was real or not, his story continues to inspire and entertain us.

Folktales

Folktales, on the other hand, are the comforting bedtime stories of folklore. They're typically passed down orally from generation to generation and vary significantly from place to place. A popular folktale you might know is Little Red Riding Hood, a cautionary tale about the dangers of straying from the path and talking to strangers, especially if they happen to be wolves.

They're short, memorable, and packed with insight. Consider the English proverb, "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched." It's a simple, effective way to remind someone not to assume success too prematurely.
